Battle of the Oregon Fans Aim to Assist Low-Income Residents of Junction City

November 13, 2012, Junction City, Ore. — Guaranty Discount Chevrolet and RV Super Centers is collecting food for Junction City Local Aid while encouraging some University of Oregon and Oregon State University rivalry.

Guaranty is making it easy for people to help our community while pitting UO and OSU fans against each other. With team colored collection barrels located at Guaranty’s Motorized Showcase at 93636 Hwy. 99 in Junction City, Guaranty is encouraging fans to support both Junction City Local Aid and their team of choice. Duck fans have bright green barrels while Beaver fans have vivid orange barrels on site.

“We’ve always embraced, even encouraged, a healthy rivalry between our Duck and Beaver fans. When we can take our enthusiasm for these outstanding local teams to a level that actually elevates the community we love, we know we’re living life right,” said Shannon Nill, general manager of Guaranty RV Super Centers.

Who will get the honor of most aiding the low-income residents of Junction City? That will be determined November 21, the end of this food drive. All shelf stable food items are needed, however, protein food items including items such as chili, beans, stew, peanut butter and tuna are especially needed. Monetary donations to Junction City Local Aid can also be made for the purpose of providing turkeys and whole chickens for Christmas boxes.

Junction City Local Aid has been helping those in need since 1945 with basic needs assistance. According to Susan Jones, Executive Director of Junction City Local Aid, in 2011, over 20 percent of the population living in the Junction City School District received food, utility assistance, propane vouchers, prescription or over the counter medicine vouchers, bus tokens, free clothing or resource information from their agency.

“We are a United Way agency, however, the majority of our financial support comes from local donations. JCLA does not receive any federal, state, county or city money. We are a privatenon-profit so all donations are tax deductible. Junction City Local Aid is thankful to have Guaranty partner with us in helping those in need in our community,” said Jones.
