There may not be a better mousetrap, but there is a better light bulb. An LED bulb is an improvement on the traditional incandescent bulb in all categories and they are ideal for the rugged RV environment. An LED bulb can last up to 50 times as long as a traditional incandescent bulb and 10 times longer than compact fluorescent bulb. The LED bulb has a longer life because there is no filament to break or burn out like in an incandescent bulb. The lack of a filament also makes an LED bulb much stronger and more durable than incandescent bulbs because the LED bulb is solid. Being solid allows it to stand up to the bumping and jarring experienced in the RV environment, and to survive circumstances that would normally damage an incandescent bulb. Not only are they stronger, but a LED bulb also produces more useable light. Because an LED is designed to be directional, not spherical, it can produce up to 90% downward light compared to 60% from an incandescent bulb. Incandescent bulbs also create heat. Up to 20% of the energy used by a traditional bulb is used in creating heat. Heat is bad for the bulb, can melt the lens, and is bad for the light fixture itself. LEDs do not create noticeable heat, only 3.4 btu’s an hour compared to 85 btu’s an hour for incandescent, so they do not contribute to heat build up inside the RV. No heat build up means no need to run the air conditioner more than normal and more efficient use of energy means your batteries will last longer when you boondock.
To replace your incandescent bulb simply id the existing bulb number and match to the LED.
