I got to do a fun thing this morning at the Friday sales meeting. After 20 great years, Donna Marean from our motorized lot staff retired from her job here at Guaranty and I got to stand in front of the crew and wish her farewell from here and safe travels to the next chapter of her life. It is, as I described, a bittersweet moment. We are at the same time sad to see a good employee leave us, but happy for her as well. In the past couple of years I have had the pleasure to be a part of several retirement ceremonies and it reinforces to me what a great company we work for. Donna was with us for 20 years, a tremendous achievement in this day and age and yet, here, that length of service is not that rare.
Some of the current employees who were clapping for her have been around even longer than that. As I walk around the dealership day by day, I meet so many of you young people just starting with us and I wonder how many of you will get to stand up in front of your fellow employees like Donna did today. As Terry Muir remarked once, not many people make it out of this business alive but my hope is for all of you to do that. So Donna, I wish you fond farewell and in the words of this Irish proverb “May you have the hindsight to know where you’ve been, the foresight to know where you are going, and the insight to know when you have gone too far.”
Have a great weekend everyone.
