Dear Team:
The conversation started at 3:30 this morning.
You have only made it two days this week, why not miss another day?
I should take a day off to rest.
I have an early meeting, so I won’t be able to get a full workout in.
That pool is so cold.
What if the hot tub isn’t hot?
And so it goes just about every morning of my life. The easiest thing to do is just turn off the alarm and go back to sleep, but the easiest thing is not usually the best thing. I have been having these early morning conversations with myself for long enough that I know one thing. If I just sit up and put my feet on the floor, I will then stand up and get started with my day. Just that one act of putting my feet on the floor makes all the difference. It doesn’t make the bed less comfortable or the pool any warmer but it gets me started.
Confucius said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step” and someone else says “half of success is just showing up”. You see, the path to greatness isn’t always one giant leap, usually it is just one small step. And you know what? Never, not one time in all the years of me getting up early have I reached the end of my day and wished I had stayed in bed, I am always glad I got up. So, get up, get going.
See you at the 5% line.
