It’s almost that time of year when our “snow birds” drive South, away from the soggy, damp winter days in Junction City, Oregon to the lazy days of never-ending summer in Arizona.
When we think of Arizona, we conjure images of arid desert, and year-round sunshine, golf courses as far as the eye can see, and relaxing days by the pool. We also think of the Grand Canyon, the lush meadows and bustling streams of the White Mountains and the historic towns of Flagstaff and Prescott, with its majestic views. There are even wineries popping up in this diverse state!
In this article, we’re going to cover a few of our favorite places to go RVing in Arizona.
Stay in Yuma, Arizona, known as the sunniest city in the U.S. and stay at the Westwind RV & Golf Resort. This luxe Resort is listed as a campground, but it’s far from the rustic campgrounds we are familiar with in Oregon. It has easy access for your RV, lots of on-site activities, a golf course, pool and spa. While in Yuma, visit the Castle Dome Ghost Town, Yuma Crossing State Historic Park, and any number of fun festivals.
Stay in Tucson, AZ, a college town similar to Eugene, and stay at either The Western Way RV Resort (55+) or a great state park that gets top reviews called Catalina State Park where they have wildlife exhibits, hiking, biking and more. Enjoy the lazy days of summer year-round in Tucson while taking in one of the Top 20 golf courses in the state, The Golf Club at Vistoso, or visit one of their incredible restaurants like the famous Sonoran Dog that was featured on Man vs. Food.
Stay in Prescott, Arizona — this true west town has great night life, restaurants and entertainment and is close to Flagstaff and a reasonable drive to Scottsdale or Phoenix. The best place for RVers is the Point of Rocks Campground. We read a TON of reviews on different options in this area, and Point of Rocks Campground is consistently ranked the highest because you can fit about any size RV in there and the hook up fees aren’t astronomical. Both big pluses in our book!
Wherever you end up this winter, may the sun shine on you like the lazy days of summer, and may the wind always be at the back of the RV!
